What irks me is not a plain descriptive links but links like "Click NOW !! Join this forum NOW" and such... I'm more comfortable with just a link giving the name of the site/forum/blog rather than those.. _________________ Toons & Comics Community

Yes. After thinking I've noticed that I'm more than likely to click a link without the "join now!" text next to it. _________________ Truestar

I've amended the relevant rules in my forum because of a new concern I had about signature advertisers: those who not only have a text link, but get really excessive by adding a large image promoting the forum, or several large images, and maybe even some bold red text saying something along the lines of "visit this forum today". Some are not as blatant, but my concern is for such people who are, and for the ease of going over my imaginary borderline. Most such people also tend to not be quite contributive, submitting mostly posts that are merely one line, assuring their signature takes up much more space, hence increasing visibility considerably, and serving as a blatant promotion board rather than a decent member. _________________ [ The Infinity Program Forum ]

Yes, cutting the LINE between blatant advertising and normal image link can at times be difficult to EXPLAIN to the members. _________________ Toons & Comics Community

as long as they don't break the site's rules I don't care
they apply to forums threads/posts, profiles and signatures.
and as long as they don't have big huge banners, or those annyoing flashy things.
I will edit their signatures, then send them a PM explaining that I did that and the reason and not to do it again, if they have HUGE amount of flashy things, I will do as above and ban them for gettingmy brain angry. |

I allow it. But images stretching anybodies screen, or taking up half of the monitor, or the same link 10 times is against our rules. Advertising within reason is allowed on all my boards.
Another philosophy of mine is the WWW option in your profile. Stick that in there and be a productive and active poster and you'lll get some hits that way. |
same as i think. _________________ Julie.

Signatures in my forums can contain 3 links, but no incentives. I allow my members to link with a nice description, but when I see "visit now" or similar stuff I hit the edit button _________________ Webmaster articles, tutorials and topics |
