Do you allow advertising in signatures? If so, what are the parameters? Text and image ads both?

My forum is new so I try and be as lenient as possible. In the future I may limit what people post but at the moment I don't really want to offend anyone as the mor happy people on my forum the better Wink

Yes; I allow advertising in signatures. However, I get annoyed when someone gets excessive, though I've rarely acted on my annoyance. For instance is when someone posts in huge test and lots of flashy stuff all pointing towards wanting you to visit that site. I allow both text and image(s) so long as they do not exceed the max dimensions.

I allow it. But images stretching anybodies screen, or taking up half of the monitor, or the same link 10 times is against our rules. Advertising within reason is allowed on all my boards.

Another philosophy of mine is the WWW option in your profile. Stick that in there and be a productive and active poster and you'lll get some hits that way. Smile

We pretty much allow people to use their signature as they like with the following restrictions:

- Our guidelines apply (so no inappropriate links, vulgar words in the links, etc.).
- No images.
- 5 lines of text (may be less if a large font is used).

I haven't had to add too much in the way of strong language to our guidelines about signature styling because it's never been much of a problem. But, I can see that changing one day.

I tend to frown on commercial advertising and links to inappropriate material such as adult sites or gambling sites (I have minors in my community).
Also this causes me to check into the user as often times they are a spammer

I only allow in profile under www.

one of my zones is on caring, which i have added "interesting sites" in it, with a warning "no personal advertising allowed, it will be deleted"

same in the funny picture zone porn etc will be delete immediately

I paid to have adverts taken off the site, not for members to fill it with adverts.

I allow images and tend to edit signatures that link to improper things or are too large.

Really i should edit my own at my community as my signature has grown quite large (silly text rabbits)

Being that I run a poker forum that makes it's money from affiliate links, I can't let everyone post links to other poker sites. So members must get an ok (from an Admin or Mod) before posting links in their sig's.

I allow advertising of one's site/blog using one image and some text. No more than one image is allowed and images should follow dimensions and should not be SO distracting as to take the focus away from the actual content.

All people so far who use this have done it correctly, no problems with sigs. so far on my site.
