With a standard phpbb forum index, where would you consider setting up advertising sections? I'm mostly referring to text links or Google Adsense areas.

EDIT: After browsing another admin website, I found a decent article here.

Yeah, Ted's a great guy. Very smart.

Are you asking for just the forum index (i.e. index.php)? The part's of the page I would look at are the header or footer, of course, but also the left or right sides. Also, below the forum list, but above the who is online box. Not all at once. Smile

I have also seen people who create a forum row on index.php that has a forum icon, etc., but instead of forum text, the ad is there. That can blend well.

If you were asking for other pages, as well, just the same for view forum and view topic (with some exceptions and adjustments, of course). Beyond that, in view topic, an ad can be placed after the first post on any page or at the bottom below all posts on the page. The reason for the one at the bottom is because people often go to the last post because they want to see the newest activity, so then they see your ad.

I like the idea of showing different ads to guests and logged in users, as well.

Hope that helps.

It does indeed. I found a tutorial for implementing ads inbetween the first and second posts of a topic and plan on using it ASAP.

Thanks.

The only ggogle ads I have ever clicked on in the many forums that I have visited since the implementation of goodle adsense are one's in the overall footer.

I totally ignore ads in the forum topics (most annoying feature ever) and the same for one's in the header.

Used only in the footer they are still higly visible and they do not break the flow of the forum.
