90x90 pixels... Remote linking or choosing from pre-set avatars. I don't allow upload.

No mods/hacks installed for avatar settings, my forum software SMF gives me complete control (including dynamic resizing and stuff) without installing any hacks/mods.

100 x 100 pixels. 8000 byte upload limit (although mine is slightly more) Cool

I only allow upload. I have gallery avatars in place (on the server), but I don't use them.

I allow upload through the browser, or through a link. Very Happy

No hacks installed at all when it comes to avatars, just don't see them as that important. Very Happy

I used vbulletin and it allowed me to specify the size in kb, which I like. I tried to keep them 15k and under, though I think 8k would have been better. I think anywhere from 70x70, 80x80 or 100x100 are perfect sizes. I've seen a few 120x120 forums, but rarely. The KB is what will get you.

I don't like allowing remote hosted images because you never know when the remote server will be down or move or whatever and if the person doesn't fix it then you end up with a broken page on your site, which irks me no end Wink So I offer uploads or avatar galleries for people to choose.

Mine are limited to 120 x 120 which I think is just the right size for an avatar.

Any smaller and those who are great at graphics tend to have problems with them.

I limit the file size to 9kb

Members can use remote linking or they can ask me to add them to the alphbetical list in the gallery.

I have for the first time this week, allowed uploading of avatars as well.

I also have install a mod to resize avatars if they are too big.

120x120 and a very large filesize limit (i have so many resources, i really dont care).

I have mods in place to limit the size of uploaded avatars, and a script that automatically resizes remotely linked avatars. I have no avatars in my galleries, mostly because I do not think anyone would use them and it would waste space.

I have hundreds of avvies in the gallery that newbies tend to use until such time that they get a personalised one made and then I upload the personal one to the members folders which are listed alphabetically in the gallery.

That way they can keep up to 3 images in the gallery and if they want to change to something else then they can either upload it to another folder or hotlink to it.

Some members like to change their avatar every week for some reason.

I'm weird I guess, we have 200x200, and 99% of them don't know but the filesize limit is somethin like 50k, if someone has an animated avatar.

Between 50x50 and 100x100, I believe. Not a large file size. It's enforced by the forum software.

Mine is 100x100. Not sure what the file size limit is, but I only allow remote linking and gallery. The forum software (SMF) enforces it, by refusing an avatar if it's over the limit.
