What do you think is the best way to keep in touch with your staff members on your site?

Do you use PM or e-mail regularly or do you use a private staff-only forum? I have a staff-only forum on my board, but I find myself using the PM option more...

I have a private forum for staff on each of my communities. This allows me to communicate with all members of staff instantly and has a bit more continuity than e-mail. If something pertains to an individual staff member, I will contact them privately, usually PM but sometimes e-mail or if they are online, I might IM.

I also have a private forum for them, and I use PM too. Chose the PM option, although I use the other one more .. didn't see the variant Smile

Pretty much the same way as Patrick, except for the IM part. I rarely use IMs Smile

I use the private forums and sometimes PM or email. I prefer the private forums as it leaves a record of what was decided or discussed so people can't say "you didn't tell me". If something like that is discussed I also post it in the private forums so everyone knows.

Down the pub with some beers usually Very Happy

As they are all friend's or family anyway, phone or IM is the usual contact method.

I have a private forum, equipped with a "Mod Log" where my mods and admins post what they did and why they did it when they have to take action. It's a record I can refer to whenever I need to do so.

I think the private forum option is overall the best in terms of getting info out to all mods.

"Mod Log"

An automated moderation log would be a great idea. I am sure that I saw a few moderation log hacks for phpBB out there... any links would be welcome! Thanks...

Those might be the mod log type of thing you are looking for.

Anyway I use a private forum and since I know most of my mods personally I may also use IM. On occasion I use the PM feature but most of the time it would be just as beneficial to simply post it so doing that is rare.
