I'd say most of us here probably have two domains.

Recently I've had a bunch of ideas, however it's not easy to just ask my parents if I can have 30 for three domain names. But if this does come through, I must ask.

How does everyone here remember to manage your domains? Do you use a calendar program? Does the registrar let you know ahead of time?

I keep all of my domains at eNom except for domains that I acquire from other people. I keep a list of the registrars those domains are at and I transfer them over to eNom when they are a few months from expiration. At the beginning of every year, I print out a list of domains I own with expiration dates and the registrar (if not at eNom) and then I keep that list on my desk, checking it periodically. Some of the registrars let me know, but it's always not a guaranteed feature. Ultimately, you are responsible for it.

There are probably more efficient ways to do it, but I haven't lost any domains, yet. Smile

I am with GoDaddy for domain names and they email you at 90, 60 and 30 days of impending renewal.

I have registered for automatic renewal so I dont really have to worry as they then take the payment on the due date.

Yeh, godaddy works well, plus you can consoldate to have them renew on the same day, regardless of when you purchased.

I wanted to use godaddy but I read their agreement and it said they could automatically renew you at their discretion, even if you were not on automatic renewal. Have you had any problem with that?

No. I use eNom as my registrar as I said above, but I routinely have some domains at GoDaddy because of me buying them from GoDaddy users who then push them to me. I doubt it's that much of a problem, if at all, because if it was, there would be a ton of complaints and it'd be a big deal...

carol, are you sure you read that correctly? that would clearly be a violation of your civil rights. I've never had that problem in fact just let one domain expire with zero difficulties.

Well, here's what it says in legalese. I guess they're just trying to be helpful. It spooked me because they have your credit card or PayPal info. Glad it's not a problem. Smile

If you fail to renew your domain name, you agree that Go Daddy may, at its sole discretion, renew your expired domain name on your behalf. If Go Daddy decides to renew your expired domain name on your behalf you will have a Renewal Grace Period during which you may reimburse Go Daddy for the renewal and keep your domain name. The Renewal Grace Period is currently 12 days but subject to change under the terms of Section 2 of this Agreement.

The way I read that it seems like they are just renewing it for you to help out, in case you forget. This way someone else doesn't snatch it out from under you because you forgot/were away when the domain expired.

It could also be tied to TDNAM and/or backorders. i.e., if you opt not to renew it, then it can be anyone's domain through TDNAM (their domain name marketplace) or their backorders system. But, you aren't charged automatically for anything unless you opt for auto renew yourself on the domain in your management section.
