| I use RealChat (www.namepros.com) on NamePros.com. The software is quite good and very popular with our users. The downside is that its on the pricey side ($795 for the full version), but it has the features and security I was looking for. It also has no problem accomodating 100+ users at a time on our busy live auction days. |

$795!?
For a chat room? That's ridiculous. It better be good for the price it's at. _________________ Truestar

One of the hardest decisions to make is to include a chatroom and if so how to incorporate it into phpBB.
Sure we have the chat box mod by smartor which is (unless updated lately) not really an alternative for the serious users of chat.
I have also used an IRC chatroom which was fine for awhile until problems started with the IRC clients servers and in the end I removed it.
I am currently using the free version of SigmaChat which works fine but other than a few minor skin details, I am unable to mod it to include my own banner in place af the SigmaChat banner. I could however buy the pro version and do just that but feel the licence for it is rather over priced so have not gone that way with it.
Also, I cannot link the chatroom users online, to the forum index to show how many users are in chat and this tends to shy people away from chat altogether.
Does anyone use a chatroom on their forum and if so, what do you use and does the number of users show as online on the forum index ??? |
Well, rather than a chat room being an addition to my forum, it's my forum that is actually the addition to my chat client.
My main site is www.friendly-chat.co.uk and the main feature of the site.. is the chat. The forums are just an addition to it.
I don't think chat rooms being an addition to a forum really work, as people who use forums general don't use chat rooms. _________________ Thanks,
Tom.

Here is my thoughts on a chat room. Have one but only open it a special occasions and have chat days where the community can get together on a scheduled day (if they'd like) and interact in real time. This will not so much take away from the community because any time else, it will be closed. I dislike shoutboxes more than chat but thats just my thang _________________ ~Shawn
