hehe, with the way my hierarchy is set up, my mods are only really concerned with stopping the bleeding right then and there, they dont need to necessarily know if its a duplicate account. Its my admins job to hammer down and finish off the problem. Also helps that I usually have equal numbers of mods and admins (though not right now since 1 mod is able to cover the lack of problems were having with that sort of thing)

I let my mods see IPs, so that they can monitor things as well. _________________ My Collector Car Forum |

I removed it to admins-only. Admins deal with user accounts, so only admins should be able to see user-account violations such as IP doubles. Moderators deal with topics and posters interactions in topics. _________________ Cross+Flame

Do you mean double IPs as in multiple users with the same IP, which are aliases? _________________ My Collector Car Forum |

I let mods see them as they may see a banned user log in. Only I can ban, but they can help spot people trying to sneak back in. _________________ Chrispian H. Burks

My mods all have the IP post button.
I have ModCP with the WHOIS hack as well, so the mods not only see all the IPs, but they can glance at ISP domains to beware of open proxies, for trolls and aliases.
They also have the cards so they can ban that way, or through the ban control module in ModCP. And they can issue yellow cards.
We started our forum under immediate attack from another site's members. They vandalized our member accounts (I had the 3-bad-try lockout hack at the time and they systematically went down our list and disabled several member accounts before I could ban their IP). They had repeatedly registered with aliases with the intention of stirring up trouble on my site. They pulled a few other stunts too, like substituting their rants via externally linked images, after they were banned ...hoping to catch the eye of some members. They are a hateful, sick bunch.
My mods have had greater responsibility from the start. Many sites only allow their mods to move/lock/split. Ours had to almost be surrogate admins when I'm not there. Needless to say I selected my mods VERY VERY carefully, and I trust them all implicitly. But I'm the only one with access to ACP.
But ....I have deletion permission set to ADMIN in all forums. For accountability reasons. The mods have a Closed Topics forum where they can move dead topics and whatnot. _________________ The Conversation Pit

I only allow myself to view ips, as stated above, the only purpose of them is for banning and only myself may ban. _________________ An optimist may see a light where there is none, but why must the pessimist always run to blow it out?

All mods may see IPs on my board, though I don't think they do it with any regularity. _________________ Dog Cow, administrator of Mac GUI City |
