Do you use captcha? I used to for quite awhile, but now I can't be bothered. It's a nuisance to legitimate users, creates headaches when it's unreadable, is irritating.... I can't really be bothered about spam bots as I don't get any now.

Lordie yes. If I install anything other than a default CAPTCHA I like to test it first though. Smile

Yes. It is an annoyance in some ways, certainly, but it's needed right now (although there are some alternatives, out there to the standard CAPTCHA).

Definitely. It's a pain, but it's necessary to stop spammer bots. Right now I'm trying out a picture based captcha, rather than the traditional "type the text you see" kind, on a new forum. It takes a while to load on dial up because there are about 20 pictures, but it should give the bots fits for a while at least.

I do. Though I make sure the audio portion is running as well so if people can't make out the letters they can at least hear them. I've used it a couple of times when one of the letters looks like it could be a couple different things.

Well, it looks like I'm in the minority But I figured I would be anyway, that's why I made this poll.

I use captcha.. and then I have another protection system and blocks same address from registering again, the reason for this was that lots of ppl who didn't get activation email in a few minutes registered again n again n again.

So they have to now:-

1. enter captcha
2. wait a few hours if they try to register again.. so they better write proper when they registering

I use CAPTCHA (Visual Confirmation) along with a number of other measures which strengthens the registration process and because it is individual to my forum, it is not bypassed by any bots.

Since introducing these measures to my forum over 18 months ago, I have not had a single bot register.

I went on to write a tutorial on it which you can find at http://rodneyangell.com/forum/securephpbb.php
