I see many subSilver and default themes communities. I personally have a bad opinion about this, but not all people are masters in theme modding, not to mention some default themes are still OK.
Do you stick to the good ole defaults or just innovate? _________________ Webmaster articles, tutorials and topics |

Yes, unfortunately my forum does have a custom skin... I am procrastinating there, for the past year.
Its sad, I want a new skin, but the task seems so daunting. It would be a nice addition to the community if someone would write a guide for noobies like me. |

Well, I want to make a MA forum in the future (an international one since I have a Romanian one already). Am thinking of staying with subSilver and MOD it beyon recognition. Still the core code would be ss so that I don't have so many probmes installing the mods .. or .. don't know.
I think for forums with heavy modding subSilver can be indeed useful, just spend some time into making it look non-subSilver _________________ Webmaster articles, tutorials and topics |

I think that no site, beyond maybe very simple sites or personal ones, should use both the subSilver layout and subSilver colors if the admin wants to be successful. It might have been good and impressive when phpBB 2 was released, but after three years it has become too common. Members can confuse it with other sites that use the same colors + layout too easily.
Default themes are okay for a little while, but eventually a successful site must move past them to establish it's own identity. |

I'd have to make a style or download one. Default makes it look a bit unprofessional.

I have modified my subSilver to a large extent and even changed the images. I think a custom look-and-feel is essential to build up a "brand-image" of your community, so to speak.
I personally don't like joining message boards which stick with the default style. Comes across as though the admin doesn't really care about the forum... _________________ Literary Forums

I usually start out with a subSilver base for all my forums and then heavily modify the design to look how I want it (subSilver works as an excellent starting point). I will say that I don't particularly like joining forums that still have the completely base look including phpBB logo and all, the least I expect from a person is to stick up some other logo. _________________ MMO Gaming |
