Do you give out e-mail addresses to your mods (i.e. joe_the_mod@yoursite.com)? Do you make it mandatory that they have one or optional?

Yup. All my mods and admins have them.

I give them to them, but I dont request that they use it. It's entirely optional.

I dont even make one for myself.

When i first started with site making (even before I had forums) I made emails and gave one to each of my staff members, however only one email was ever sent the whole time and it was just a test.

From what i see, making specific emails is just a hassle, everyone already has their own primary email that they feel comfortable with using (i have 4) and they generally wont go to a new system that is not very easily accessable.

I have had some people ask me to make them an email address, but i refuse since I believe that there is a conflict of interest. Specifically between my responsibilities as a webmaster and the privacy that i like to give my users. I just prefer to avoid the situation ^_>

I did that way back when but found it too much of a hassle in the end.

I would though (if it was free) allow all members to sign up for an email address that had the site address ....... ie, someone@galahscorner.com as the use of the address would get a lot more people interested in seeing who/what galahs corner is about.

At the moment Im with godaddy.com

They have very good deals when it comes to hosting.

When you get a hosting account, they offer 500 emails free. At the moment I have 2 hosting accounts. So ive got 1000 emails. And they can all be used on the one account.

So basically when i integrate the email system into my site, ill probly offer free email accounts. However, I think they would need to be manually created. But would be worth it in the end i think.

I don't give them out - I seem to have a habit of choosing hosts that don't give that level of control over the email addresses. Besides, everyone should have an e-mail address of their own already.

And none of my mods/supermods gets any e-mails. Whenever they receive a PM though it will send a notification to their email address which is good enough IMO.

The only reason my mods use their email is to get the "bad post" reports (and half the time they don't read those but are active enough to catch the bad posts on their own anyway).

However, the mods have made their own thread in the mod board where they give out their msn, AIM, etc to each other. Only my globals have my msn. They do a lot of their communicating with each other over IM, I'm actually rather proud of the team work they have developed among themselves and my globals keep me well informed of their activities as well as the activity of the boards.

If I need to communicate with the mods I always do so in their mod board unless I need to speak with one privately then I will private message them.

I don't. Moderators on my site must contact users (related to violations, etc.) via PM, so there isn't much need for it.
