EasyMOD definitely isn't as reliable as it appears at first glance. It can also be misleading - Shoutbox hack is supposed to be EasyMOD compliant (I may be wrong), and it definitely screwed up when I tried it. After installing shoutbox manually, I found out why EasyMod was of no use - the guy who wrote it miswrote part of the coding. EasyMOD installs exactly what the hack tells it to - even if it's not going to work. Manually installing and testing my doing checks of my work allowed me to spot the problem quickly - with EasyMOD I was totally lost.

Now that I've resigned myself to doing all mods manually, and seeing all the ways a small typo in the mod file (I've found about 6 or 7) can put the kaibash on an EasyMod install, I probably wouldn't use it even if it would work on my forum.

Plus, I've learned alot about php, SQL and html doing them the long way Wink

EasyMOD is a great idea, but completely impractical after a certain point. If you add something that does a major code change, like Categories Hierarchy or some other mods from the same author, EasyMOD becomes next to useless because so much was changed. It's better to learn how to install changes manually.

of course, even installing other hacks after having installed caterogires hierarchy is difficult. that's one thing i really dislike about that mod, incidently - the changes it makes are very farsweaping and do much more than just add "category hierarchies".
