Regarding your previous post (sorry too lazy to quote it), you said you have Sig. links of popular sites with lots of members, but how many posts have you made on those sites? Because the more posts you have (genuine ones) the more the community members respect you (yes sad that people gage post count for respect I know but most of the time that's the case) and you're more likely to get members clicking on your sig. link. _________________ Toons & Comics Community

| thanks for that - the only reason i have chosen to stick with subsilver is because i have the chatroom installed on that template, so i guess i'll have to find out how to move it to other templates. |
You chatroom template should take on any template that you decide to install.
If not check the .tpl files and change subSilver where mentioned to the name of the other template. _________________ ~HG~

While reading this thread, I noticed that the only non-external internet promotion is the word of mouth suggestion. This is all well and good but may I suggest some things that I find will work, or have worked.
Just remember all advertising costs.. whether it be time or money.
Alot of administrators get their friends to help them start up their communities, why don't they use this to their advantage.
Not many admins (me not included) meet up with their friends for the purpose of (a) having a good time, and (b) promoting the site.
Example: heading to a niteclub, being the craziest people there so that people will remember, but also all wearing a t-shirt, that needs to be well designed that boasts the website logo, eg RadicalNut.com (alot of people will cop on to what this means). T-shirts dont cost that much money over all. And members don't mind getting a site souvenoir (excuse the spelling). I have found that advertising in this form, is very worthwhile, and news of the parties spreads. I have been involved in them and can easily vouche for its effectiveness.
Other forms would be posters. Try and get them stuck up in an internet cafe. Doesn't cost money to stick them up (well depends on the mood of the owner).
Member-cards (well kinda). These can be multi-purpose. I won't go into detail on this (unless ye ask nicely). But they can be useful.
Business/Site-cards: Every member could get an email of a design that can be printed off (or mailed if desired), showing a card, with the site logo, web address, name and member name and email address of the card owner, which can be handed out to people. Telling people the site address on a night out might not mix well with the alcohol. Having a card, at least theres a chance they might remember.
Ok, I think I lost the plot. Too much writing :S (short and sweet is preferred, but im sure ye get the idea. Any questions? _________________ An optimist may see a light where there is none, but why must the pessimist always run to blow it out?

1. Link in sig
2. Link exchange with fellow sites
3. CONTENT .. that's the key for a site.
4. search engines and directories submission
5. WORD OF MOUTH .. another important one.
.. these are the free ones
Or just pay some money for Advertising |
Methods involving monetary aside, and content, which I consider a prerequisite to getting good gains out of your promotional tactics, through word of mouth at other forums has worked best for me. I consider linking to the signature a part of word of mouth, because to increase views you have to participate, and your sig is technically part of your post. _________________ [ The Infinity Program Forum ]

We opened our sites in March, 26th...one of them has already 29 members (La Carpita) and the other 41, I think. But what happens in the Italian Forum? 20 members have 0 posts! So finally, those who post are 5 or 6....the rest have 1 post, maybe two (those of "introductions") Then they never post again. I think my forums have a nice, friendly display, colourful... ok, all the people there are friends of mine, I'm asking them to bring their friends, but they come say "hello" and that's it.
I tried to put them in the google directory and so far nothing. I used to have another site a free one, and google put it in their directory in 2 days! and although I close it you can see the ad still there (www.wordsuniverse.com). Now we are trying to put an ad in Adwords, but with the budget we have the estimated clicks are very low, only 5 to 7 per day. But a click does not mean that people will register and post on those sites. I put webcamchat, did a huge range of topics, included taboo (wich Italians like very much) but still...no people posting. 40 registered members and 6, 8 really posters. This is frustrating really! _________________ ~La Carpita~ // =L'Obelisco= //-WordsUniverse Language Forums- |
