The first one I install is phpMyadmin hack as it makes it simple to add a lot of other hacks from that point on.

Generally speaking tough, most of the first up hacks are all admin ones that I use then I add the Advance Quick Reply hack and change all the smilies to something more consistent with the times.

After that it is users online etc and always the avatar and welcome on index hack.

The hacks i install on most forums i set up for anyone (mainly the free ones i host for anyone and everyone on my site ipbfree.co.uk) are:

Advanced Admin Control Panel

Quick Reply (Usually just the simple one)

Admin private messages viewer (i always let members know i am using this one)

Admin add user

admins and mods list

admin control panel users list

forum rules page

and a few others, calendar photo album e.t.c. if they want one.

Could anyone reccomend any others?

It'd be hard to recommend others - there are so many different categories. And still, not all hacks apply to all forums - it depends on what you are trying to do.

I'd say the ones you have look pretty good, especially for the admins, but you don't have many that effect the users much. I personally like the "topic on index" hack which shows the last topic posted in per forum on the index. I don't know the link, but it is in a topic around here somewhere on communityadmins.com. That's one I'd strongly suggest. Also, style on index is a good one - where users can change their style preference on the index w/ a dropdown list. The statistics hack and it's assortment of modules is always cool. The profile views hack is fun. The birthday hack is cool. Shoutbox is ok for some boards, but not meant for all. Visits in the last # of hours is cool. That's a lot, and still not all of them I'd suggest you look into. There as many great hacks - but still nothing wrong with keeping a board simple and easy w/o the hacks.

Thanks for the reccomendations. I did look at 1 or 2 of those but decided to stick with what i have for now but i think i might look at the last topic hack and the shoutbox in the near future.

i was also looking at phpBB Security. Would anyone recommend this or any other? i want the forum to automatically backup the database. anything else is a bonus. Smile

You can use a cron job for that, but I am still searching for that command myself...

I use it and the only problem I've had with it is it conflicts with Webmedic's Error MOD.

Ironically, phpBB Security is the first MOD I'd add to a site (I don't count the Attachment MOD considering it's packaged with premodded files).

The first mod I installed (not called a hack in SMF forums) was the GoogleBot & Spiders mod. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work with the newer version of SMF Sad

Need to try again.

It was some kind of auto-lock MOD by Fishgod. Smile
