I used it on my advertising section but the problem is that it keeps viewers out as well as posters. Anyone who wants to look at the topics in that forum must also have __ posts.

I tried it once in my promotion forum but got rid of it.

I dont believe in restrictions of any sort and that way new members are treated the same way as long term members so they feel welcome when they join.

Unless you have a specific reason for restricting a members ability to post, it can really only be construed as discrimination more that anything else.

Not only that, but if you start to restrict a members ability to post in certain forums (without a valid reason) then you are more than likely to lose that member for ever and that is not what we are about.

If you restricted every forum, or made unrealistic restrictions, then yes that would be right HG, but most uses come from advertisment forums (for reasons stated above) or for really busy forums so that their more seinior members have a place of their own. SO long as the barrier if entry isnt too high, it gives new members something to shoot for (though like you I am very new person and even guest friendly)

My members cannot post in the "market place" unless they have 20 messages. That's when they can get there. Keeps a lot of spammers at bay.
