I have tried a few but always have problems of some sort.
I find $5 a month for your own hosting the best way to go and there are plenty of hosts around with a suitable package that is cheap enough for everyone who wants to show a little professionalism in having their own domain name and hosting. _________________ ~HG~

Thank you, but $5US is a lot here (including conversion rates etc), and especially when i am a SAHM. Thanks, but i'd like to see if there are any free ones that someone can recommend |

You only just over the water from me Kirsty so the $5 I am talking about is in Aussie dollars with and Aussie host.
Are there no NZ hosts that have realistic prices ??? _________________ ~HG~

Always watch for those who give exorbiant amounts of things in their free pacakges. Ususally those are the kinds of people that dont know what it really takes to give free hosting as they ususally over extend their resources too quickly. Flashy numbers always look good, but look at the quality of the sites they host and always keep an eye on loadin speeds and such. Be sure to also read throug their forums for recorded outages, and other problems they may have had. Look for those with experience and a level head, as theres nothing worse than a free host who is either never really around to help out, or is subject to just delete everything on a whim and leave.
being a free hoster myself, ive learned alot from the mistakes of my fellow free hosters ^_^

one of the problems with free hosting is that there seems to be alot of ads placed onto your site.
Ive found it a lot easier just to host my site myself.
Full access and full control is great. PLus i have no-one to blame but myself if things go wrong.
And its not that hard. All you need is a computer that you can leave on constantly and a quick interenet service. And your more than half way there. |

BuildtoLearn in my opinion is a good free hosting site. You can host more than just forums. You just need to get 50 posts and submit an application for hosting. There are no ads placed on your site, and you get a subdomain. You get 5 MySQL dbs along with a cPanel and other stuff.
Although, if I could get paid hosting I would as there are less limitations. |
