Well I have a known "hacker" on my website, although he claims to not have hacked for 2 years my staff is keeping a very close eye on him. We've secured as much of the site as we can to help, so if he does decide to go rambo our site won't be permanently damaged.
If this was any normal website, I probably would have asked him to leave the community, however because this is our clan website, in which everyone is welcome he's staying, not to mention he recently joined our clan.
The question is, if you suddenly had a member that registered, who is a current or "retired" hacker, would you remove him from your community, or put him under close watch? _________________ Truestar

It depends on the situation. For example, if my website got hacked or a friends website got hacked or maybe even if another website got hacked that I knew of and this person took responsibility for it/bragged about it, I'd probably ban them outright. They can hack me all day long, but no matter what they do, they will not be welcome at my site.
Now, if it's just some suspected stuff or... stuff you're not sure about/in the know about, then I pretty much just treat him like any other member. You do what you can to secure it and you make sure you have a good backup system and then you let it ride and deal with issues as they come up. _________________ Patrick O'Keefe - CommunityAdmins.com Administrator

I might keep an eye on him, but that would be all. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt until he steps out of line, and then deal with him the same as anyone else.
As far as securing the site and keeping backups, it's best to do that anyway. A hacker that joins your site is probably less likely to attack it than one that doesn't. _________________ Phantasy Star: The Fringes of Algo | phpBB Smith |

Agreed. I recently had a hacker who hung around my site for about 2 years now, though never registered. He sent me in an email a few months ago, some critical information about my site.
Needless to say, I drafted a comple security audit the next day and have completely changed how things are handled on my site.
You see, I'm a hacker too. I can fight back or change things around to make my site harder to penetrate.
That guy did me a favor by showing me some weaknesses of my site. _________________ Dog Cow, administrator of Mac GUI City |

Nothing can be done until he does something.
People are willing to say things about themselves in order to make themselves look bigger than they actually are.
As for me? I practice the Dark Arts on practice servers I set up at home to keep my skills sharp and to see if anything I put online can withstand the tests. In the least- it will not fall down to a scriptkiddie and his friends with a hard drive full of old scripts. |
