Yeah, staff need to be pruned like the forums need to be pruned. Nothing like a culling to get the staff back to their best. lol

I have demoted 2 admins and 1 mod before, all due to inactivity. Some didnt know how to work a phpbb board. This was back in the early days of my community and i was a little overzealous in getting a staff together. Most of them are now very active and productive members of my community. None of them really cared about their demotions, especially since they didnt know how to handle their responsibilities in the first place ^_^

I have never removed a moderator myself. But I have had moderators ask to be removed due to change in goals (professional or personal) or other reasons. I have a "moderator only" forum (which I expect most board owners have) and I have set up a "Retired Moderators" group that holds all of these folks. That way they're still part of the family, and can get in and see the private conversations going on. They just don't have moderator power on the board.

I've retired a few that stopped posting and went on to better things, and I temporarily stripped one of his powers cause he abused them but i laid down the rules and reinstated him as mod and its all good

I've had to remove only one moderator in the past, and that is because he adopted a holier than thou attitude, and started placing his importance above others on the forums, abusing his power wherever he could. It was poor judgement on my part to add him to the forum staff. He seemed like a good person at the time, but was only trying to suck up.

Me and my friend demoted a couple of moderators. They were alright with it though because they knew as well as us that they didn't really care for the job or have the time to devote to it.

I also remembered another moment in which I had to demote a Moderator.

This user joined my forum, and apparently knew his material. So of course I made him a moderator.

We were going great, there wasn't much to do so I couldn't really "grade" him on anything, but then that day came. That same user was banned on a different forum, from then on he didn't come to mine. I found that very unprofessional, not to mention just rude. Just because you were banned elsewhere that gives you permission to be inactive? Well, that user is now banned.

So yeah, that rung a bell. I just hadn't gotten around to posting it. Laughing

Some of my mods were too inactive, so I talked with them about it - and they were fine stepping down. They have way too busy lives without Bobsnox.com too worry about.

I recently demodded one of mine because he hadn't showed up for a couple of months, due to work schedules. I e-mailed him about it. He returned and is quite active again, so I re-modded him.

He's also a close personal friend and understood completely, and we get along great.
