I have 2 sites, each with a board, but, they serve two different purposes. I am in the fooring business and have one board just for people to post questions about flooring, it is there as a service.

My other site is for my hobby, homebrewing, that has a board as well and should be the one getting traffic. I am a member of many homebrew boards, they all have thier own "culture" if you will.

I just launched my Hophead Site December, and still nothing! I feel it has a very welcoming appearance, it is even showing up on the search engines. I have about 50 link exchanges, and advertise with adwords and yahoo/overture. My ads are getting clicked so they are going to the site, but no one is signing up. I need advice bad! Somebody, anybody, please take a look and tell me what is wrong with it.

I posted this as a reply to another topic, only to find that I should have posted it here, althought it was relevant where it was, I haven't seen a response. I really need some suggestions, as of now I am getting many hits on the site, but no new members, why?

Well first of all I think you should get your friends where you live to join up and then get them to get their other friends to join up.

Word of mouth is the best form of advertising.

Most forums start off slow and slowly grow so you need to get some friends to help you build it up.

To b e honest I find the template to be a bit of a mess, regardless of a websites subject matter, I think the design should always look professional, but maintain a sense of relevance to the content...I suggest getting a more "tidy" looking template, that way anyone that happens upon your site may not be put off by it.

Just a suggestion.

hmm, the reason I picked that template was for its lack of a professional look. It is supposed to be informal. Oh well, guess its just me?

Informal is fine, but a mess puts me right off of a website, granted I am a designer, but I visit websites with novel/informal designs reguarly.
