I offer them links in my forums for free. What do you have for your mods?

Link on a links page, if they want it. Once in a while I might surprise them with something. Like when GMail first came out, I bought an account and offered my members of staff at certain sites GMail accounts. Or I've sent out logoed mousepads before. That is fairly rare, of course. That's about it. I'd be glad to provide a reference letter, etc. if asked for one, as well. Anything like that where I can help them.

So far nothing but the privilege of being a moderator and a respected member of my forum Wink But this might change later...

It all depends on how you look upon your forum: as a hobby or as a serious venture and also how involved they are in your community...

From time to time, I'm also able to pass on things I'm offered. Like I got an e-mail from someone offering me a review copy of a book related to the subject matter of one of my sites (I'd just have to write a short review at Amazon.com and BN.com). After talking to him a bit and letting him know about my staff at that community, he said he could send out as many as 6 copies. So, I'm going to pass all of those onto my staff, if 6 (8 person staff) people want them. Smile

Same here.

My moderators are all volunteers and I don't really have much to offer them. I give them my extra space on my servers when they need it, but otherwise, I've never really given them anything special except for a regular 'thank you', and they've never asked for more.

There are a couple of things I do for my mods. I have a specific set of standards for the forum and the mods. Once a month (and gosh its about that time again ... lol) I choose one moderator who has stood out above the others and publicly name them as moderator of the month. They get a little added title tagged onto their signature and their name goes onto the Moderator of the Month thread in our announcement board.

This is also a forum connected with a game so they are given points in the game which they can use for either additional gold or attack points. When the game resets, all of the mods get to be the first one's into the new round. We sometimes have them test out some new feature we are planning.

I also try every now and then to make sure I message each to let them know I think they are doing a bang up job, and/or post something thanking all the mods in their private board just to let them know I appreciate what they do for me and the forum.

They really do work hard and get a great deal of abuse at times so I feel they deserve something a little special for their efforts.

Eh well, we have a point system on the forum I work on.

Starting soon we will be handing out extra points to those that are mods.
