|
|
One of my forums is so heavily moded (at least 50 fabulous mods applied - most of which I downloaded from phpbbhacks.com)
Upgrading to a new phpbb version is a nightmare. What's the easiest method to update such a board other than having to re-install most of the mods? _________________ FREE IT Certification Test Questions: http://www.thecertificationhub.com

I haven't got the "chance" to upgrade yet since I am on 2.0.17, but I have a lot of hacks myself. I thinnk I would just open each files and look at the code and update the code that changed. No chance I would reinstall my mods. I have many and I already lost count of them. _________________ Webmaster articles, tutorials and topics |

Dojo:
I came across a site that is dedicated to documenting and pin-pointing exactly what code has changed from version to version. The problem is that I never bookmarked this site. Can't seem to find it in search engines anymore. I usually update the "Changed Files Only". phpbb.com has a third option which they do not recommend due to the possiblity of failures. _________________ FREE IT Certification Test Questions: http://www.thecertificationhub.com

we should really find that site since I think it's the only way I am willing to upgrade
I'll start looking for it too, and maybe others can offer more input _________________ Webmaster articles, tutorials and topics |

We will look for it. Time is precious.
I checked out your Nuke Portal/Forums....Nice Job!
I have one too but I haven't really worked on it as seriously as I have with phpbb.
Have a good weekend sir! _________________ FREE IT Certification Test Questions: http://www.thecertificationhub.com

Great patrick!
Just what I needed.
One quick question: Which mod do you recommend for implementing sub-forums? I need something easy. I am sure you have a quick answer _________________ FREE IT Certification Test Questions: http://www.thecertificationhub.com

Pithriiks is most popular but also has the greatest possibility to conflict with your existing code. If you have the time, you could try to use his first and hope no problems arise, just hope not conflicts result. If that doesnt work out, try to find one that doesnt edit so many core functions (fewer file edits = less chance of conflict ^_^)

There's a pseudo subforum mod that I initially authored and it's development was taken up by others (since I hadn't the time to do it myself) who've greatly improved it with a lot of cool features. You can find it in the development section at phpbb.com (I don't think it's been released officially as a MOD yet).
It's a lot easier than Ptirhiik's MOD I think because its code changes don't affect too many parts of the phpBB code base. _________________ Literary Forums
