Hi there,

I've converted my forum from phpBB to myBB which has many more features.

It's a very good looking forum and easy to theme as well.

Check it out here: www.mybboard.com

For those who are not able to afford paid solutions like vBulletin or IPB and don't like the limitations of phpBB you might want to try this board out offline just to get a feel of it. Very Happy

While its okay, im not overly impressed by it. It could just be that I can get ahold of all of these features anyway. It looks decent, but nothing there with a "wow" factor.

It looks like a combination of phpbb, SMF, and vBulletin.
Maybe I'll give it a try on a subdomain or something.

The admin panel is reminiscent of IPB, but it's not as feature rich of course. For a free forum it's quite cool. As you say a combination of phpBB, SMF and vBulletin. They actually have modelled it on all three taking the good features out of it all.

As ex0dus says, it's not something that has a "wow" factor, but it has a much cleaner templating system than SMF so that's why I chose it.

Cannot buy vBulletin or IPB since I cannot really afford them. So between SMF and myBB (free options) I chose myBB because of its HTML-based templating system. SMF with its PHP templates is too complex to modify.

I was dissatisfied with phpBB because no matter how much I modded it, it was never up to the way I wanted it to work and also upgrading was proving to be a real nightmare with all those mods.

Im guessing you were talking about the 2.0.17 to 2.0.18 upgrade. I feel you there o_O soooo many small changes, sooo many headaches, sooo little patience (at least with me ^_^)

Ex0dus, I split the update into three days. Did it offline (as I always do all updates) tested it and then applied the update. Luckily it was a smooth update though it did break one MOD. The last visitors hack. There was a fix though for it.

Since the conversion to myBB, I have a question:

How do I possibly convert all the inforum links (like viewtopic.php)? to the equivalent of the new forum software (showthread.php)? Is there any automated way to do it? Because scattered all over my forum is a bunch of broken links. Sad

hmm, if youre talking about in the posts text, try making a backup of your posts_text tables and going into wordpad and doing a replace in there. Then restore the new one over your old table.

Only thought i had, but its EXTREMELY risky and i dont really know if that would work. Be very careful you dont accidentally change any of the tables column names or any other commands.

Of course, any link linking to an outside side that has viewtopic in ther would then be broken. Dont know how many of each you have.

Im sure theres a mod out there to help with that that would be better than my idea.

My thoughts on myboard is that it is more a clone of Snitz forums at first view.
