|

On my site, the majority of the members are computer illiterate. Not only that, they have absolutely no attention for detail, and their level of proactivity for site-related concerns is absolutely zero. No one on my site exercises any level of concern for the site, love for the site, concern for new members, concern for growth, absolutely nothing. Therefore, in terms of moderating, it is my belief that they are too incompetent for such a task. And consequently, I have no moderators.
And this bothers me, because I actually NEED moderators for obvious reasons. And as the site grows, its going to become even more necessary that I have moderators.
But I'm stuck with members who come and go more often than the wind, and who when they're there show absolutely no concern for anything other than to post, What the heck do I do?
I refuse to have non-caring, non-supportive, incompetent, computer illiterate, and non-active members as part of a moderator team.
What do I do? |

Now this is indeed a hard situation .. fortunatelly I haven't seen this in my communities, but I understand it's serious ...
I think you need to set an example yourself. You need to be the top poster there, always have thoughtful posts and little by little people will start following your foot-steps. It's indeed hard to make them write good posts, but with patience and the edit button you can solve this ...
I don't know what else I could advise you. Maybe if you gave us the link to the forums I could see the "problems" as they are there and come with more ideas ... _________________ Webmaster articles, tutorials and topics |

If your site has a wide enough base that many people can relate you could always resort to offering mod positions on more trusted sites (like CommunityAdmins for instance) - bringing moderators in instead of using the apparently bad pool you're trying to pick from. _________________ [The Smash Syndicate] Ek Pyros - Out of Fire |

That's a good idea. But what do you think about having strangers mod your site. |

That's why you get to know them beforehand - ask for some kind of resume in their application to be a moderator. _________________ [The Smash Syndicate] Ek Pyros - Out of Fire |
