Honestly, I was surprised this wasn't started yet.
MOD's are a great thing, they are just plain awesome. But in your community, what do you think about them? What is your favorite MOD? Least favorite? Which do you think are essential to your communtiy?
Favorite MOD: I'm really not sure. I haven't installed many, but I dearly love the "Did You Know?" MOD. It's great for a community like mine, which is dedicated to social studies.
Least Favorite: I honestly can't stand the quick reply MOD. (No offense Patrick )It just doesn't suit me, and to be quite honest, I don't think it's much faster than normally adding replies. Of course it can be suitable for certain situations, but generally I don't think my communities need it.
But this all depends on your community also. There are so many MOD's, they come in all shapes and sizes, and impact your community in some way.
So what do you feel about MOD's? What is your favorite, or least favorite? Do you feel you need some? Do you think some MOD's shouldn't be installed? |

Ive installed so many mods on so many forums... cant really say which is my least favorite of all time, so ill just list the two that i didnt like but put up with for awhile ^_^
#1. Category Hierarchy- Controversial decision, i know. This is a masterful piece of work in itself but requires so much work to make anything else compatible with it, i just quit on this mod.
#2. Album category hierachy- Not php5 compatible, coding is a bit... well... off. So many small errors and ways to break it, it caused me more than a few grey hairs before i got rid of it.
My favorite mod of all time is keep topics unread. Since im a 56ker at home and i use many different computers at work, the default way phpbb handles unread topics just doesnt cut it for me. Excellent mod =D

My forum it's set up on isn't available to the public yet. It is on the net, just I haven't given the link out. I taking the skills I've learned here.
- Add templates
- Add MOD's
- Create guidelines
- Start topics
- Open to public

I'm not sure why we're talking about least favorite, but I generally like to install the ones I like and feel add something viable for users. Dates for Humans, Quick Reply, Search Posts by Date, etc. Administrative ones that make my life easier like Admin Private Messages Viewer, Shadow Topic Delete, Inactive Users, etc. And then other ones that add features that I like/that are needed, like Statistics Hack, Last Visit Hack, File Attachment Hack, etc. _________________ Patrick O'Keefe - CommunityAdmins.com Administrator

A little bit hard to define the least favourite as I have installed so many mods and then deleted them later because I found they were unnecessary.
Admin mods tend to be my first choice and on the cosmetic side, my favourite would be ezPortal.
As for shadow topics, I dont believe it is necessary to leave a shadow topic when you move it so I have removed the code that leaves shadow topics from the board so I dont have that problem anymore. _________________ ~HG~

My favorite mod is probably Cards. My second favorite is probably Moderator Control Panel.
Handiest mods for forum troll issues: IP Lookup (logs IP when someone registers, so you know if it's an open proxy. You don't need to wait until they post to get their IP), Show Topics User Has Viewed (provides a list of topics in their profile view for the admin only, showing times, dates and how many times a topic has been viewed), and Post Remover (prevents their posts from reverting to "guest" and remaining after you delete the user account. You can send 'em all to a hidden forum before deleting the troll's account ).
My least favorite is Highlight Topics User Posted In. The damned mod only works when installed with EasyMod which, because of the mods I already have, has long since stopped working on my forum _________________ The Conversation Pit
