All 5 of the admins are in the top 10 posters. 1,2,4,5,10 and the moderator is #3. Lots and lots of chat at our forum between us.

The 5th administrator is sort of a administrator in disguise as a normal user, he ususally doesnt let his powers be known in the event someone thinks that noone is around to stop them if they should try something. The users know we have 5 admins and can name 4 of us, but since they dont know who the 5th one is, they tend to keep well behaved just in case hes around =D

That's a funny idea - we have two (kinda three) "users" who are actually just two admins in disguise. They don't have administrative powers...but why do they need them if they're just pseudonyms of the admins?

hehe, ours is the reverse of that. The hidden admin has a normal name and everything (really all of us do) but unlike the rest of us he doesnt edit any posts (which would then show his identity) and he doesnt use the moderator control panel (to move, split, etc). Hes sort of the emergency man and the mere fact that everyone knows theres a 5th admin but doesnt know who he is keeps them all in line (not that alot of them would be out of line anyway)

I see how that can be helpful, especially in larger communities. But what about the "Whose Online" area? Won't there name appear in the Admin color? Uh Oh

You can hack it not to do that.

Since i use a color groups mod, admin and mod colors dont show up like on a default board ^_^

Ive also hacked it so his specific username doesnt show up in any color on the birthday mod either (even though the rest of us do)

I dont know how large your community is, but unless you have previous connections you ususally dont have the luxury of having a good group to pick mods from until you get a few hundred members. Always go quality over quantity and in your case, if noone wants to be a mod, then they likely dont deserve being a mod. Wait for the right people to come up and then ask them privately. Not only does it make it more of an honor (since youre asking them specifically) but it ususlly shows that the position means something (since youre just not throwing it out there)

Just my thoughts on it though,

Very good points in your post exodus. I have offered it to one person who is very active and a real nice person but he turned it down because I guess he had some ticked off people at another forum he was modding because he had to remove a vulgar post. Thanks for the tips. I am sure someone will come along.

My forum is very small to employ mods Smile But in anycase I go by this rule. Only when your forum is SO large with SO many members that one admin cannot moderate it all should a mod be employed. Well atleast that's my take on the matter... good luck anyway with finding mods!
