Cap, I'm honestly not sure what you're saying. I mean, I think I get it, but I'm not sure how it relates to what I said...
I was just saying that I would definitely pick the better people for the job over simply seeing what friends I could appoint.
Sorry, I'm probably just misreading something. Please reiterate for me.
I read your post as saying that most admins pick their mods out of friendship rather than being the best suited for the job. I was describing how that is not the policy I use for picking mods. That's all Wink

Oh, I see. I was trying to say that when admins pick their mods based on friendship it can be an unwise focus. Not that most do.

Then we agree Very Happy Cool

Yeah. It all depends on where your priorities lie, and if you're serious about making your site a good one.

My point exactly.

*High-fives Capmaster*

Just so everyone knows, I'm not saying that appointing friends as mods is a bad thing by itself; only when the criteria for modship is based on friendship alone is it a bad idea.

*high five right back* Very Happy

If you're lucky enough to have good friends who are also excellent mods, then you're set. You just have to watch to make sure they don't take advantage of your friendship and start behaving a little crazy with the banning or something Big Wink

On the matter of banning, what's your setup to allow mods to ban? I installed some mod ban panel that originally instructed me to put a link to the panel in Overall_header, but then everyone can see it. I deleted the link and left a text link in the Mod forum..

Just give it time and wait. I was sole admin on my forums for a long time, then got desparate and put up 3 moderators just because id dint have a staff. To this day, only one of them is still a mod and the other two did nothing. Once i had a little patience, very qualified staff came to me. Now we have 4 public admins (1 hidden admin) and the 1 mod.

Just takes time.

I have ModCP installed. It lets me turn on and off modules for ban control, user management, mass e-mails, etc. I have all modules turned off except ban control.

I also installed a hack that adds a modCP link to the top in overall_header under the other links. Same for the Admin CP link.

I also have the Cards mod installed which gives the mods red, green and yellow buttons on posts.
