If you have more than one admin (as in more admins than yourself), were those admins first moderators who worked their way up to the admin position or did you inlist their services starting at the admin level? _________________ [The Smash Syndicate] Ek Pyros - Out of Fire |

If I were in this situation I would probably have them sit in Moderator status first. Rarely would I make someone an admin off the bat. However, a friend of mine at school whom I know I can trust was promoted instantly.
Other than that, I would likely have them be a mod first. _________________ Truestar

Aside from the founding admins (there were three of us), they worked their ways up from moderator. _________________ Cross+Flame

The two went straight to admin. All three of us were staff at another forum and we worked together for over a year, so you could imagine we also got to know each other. _________________ [ The Infinity Program Forum ]

Several months back I appointed a co-admin. She was first a registered member, then a moderator, then became a global or super moderator and now is co-admin. She is very aware of what my expectations and vision for the site are simply because she has participated and excelled in all staff related areas. I couldn't ask for a better situation actually and am rather pleased with how it turned out. I wouldn't do this any other way.
I think the admin needs to be aware of what its like to sit in mod and global mod positions in effort to provide the best feedback and support. They also need to be aware (as do the mods and globals) of what it is like to participate on the community level as a registered member. I would never choose a moderator who was not first an outstanding community member and would never appoint a global moderator who was not first an outstanding moderator. |

Wow Psyched. It must feel nice knowing that your co-admin knows what's expected of them, and not have to blatantly say it.
If I survive with my newb site, I'd like to experience the same. _________________ Truestar

Inteewating thoughts Psyched but defining an outstanding moderator would be difficult.
I have moderators on my boards that have never had to do a thing as the member users very rarely step out of line. I doubt some of them would even know after 4 years that they are moderators.
My admins are all trusted people that are users on other sites so they have the experience of all of what you mention but not necessarily on my forums. Some run their own forums and because they do, they are first choice admins because they already know the in's and out's of how to run a board.
I am also an admin on thier boards and that way we swap reciprocal rights and help each other out when ever the need arise's. _________________ ~HG~

Well I became admin of the site I own because our sites kinda merged. I had a site and the other side had a site, but we were all co-relating so we decided to merge to the better site, which was Ultimate Gaming, not mine... But I guess thaqt'd be a different scenario that probably happens more than I know.... lol _________________ Administrator of Ultimate Gaming

That's the same in my situation.
I worked at another site similar to the one I merged with. When we merged, I became "Staff" which is a zone between Admin and Mods. Eventually, I became an Admin because I was doing more work than the user who was above me, and Admin powers would help me a great deal. _________________ Visit Anionline.net |
