Ahoy there me hearties..

A little while back I was told that in order to increase SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) I should most definetly move my community files OUT of /forum folder and just have them all loose inside of the root directory (you know what I mean)

Code:
so instead of www.acapellas4u.co.uk/forum I'd have www.acapellas4u.co.uk

We had a redirector on the main page which again I was told that "google spits at these" and will go no further.

Anyways, this has now been done but since then I have had conflicting discussions saying that what I have done inadvertently by carrying out this operation is to have undone months worth of search engines' referrencing work. Great. So that's REALLY improved the SEO Smile Is this true ?? and how can all OLD www.acapella.co.uk/forum links that Search Engines reference be cleaned up and quickly if at all possible?

Also, there's a ton of old data pointing to /forum type links within the user_posts table of the MYSQL db as you can imagine.. Is there anyway to clean this out safely.

I have more questions about SEO but I guess I should start another thread.

cheers for reading my text!

I've never had a problem with /forum, and in fact, since Google searches the names of the physical address as well, then forum would be included. So I'm unsure why SEO would recommend that.

Let's just say that it's a valuable lesson I've learnt NOT to believe everything I'm told and that I must converse more next time with others before I do anything like this again.

The longterm side affect of this is lots of 404's and a hefty error.log aswell as plenty of posts containing links to acapellas4u.co.uk/forum.
