Well, has anyone downloaded? Patrick and Jeremy, (pardon me if I didn't mention you) have upgraded the demo at phpBBhacks. I had to get deeper though. Laughing

I like it, very useful and plenty of features integrated in. Smile

Yep, I installed it and setup a test admin account with the username test and password test for those who would like to mess around with it. The url is http://phpbb3.bobsnox.com if anyone would like to mess with it.

It looks very good. But, it is going to be a huge task to get all of my sites upgraded and working as I need them to work.

Thanks for the login account, Nick. I poked around in it a bit.

Gosh, it's gonna be awful transferring 4 sites to it, I can't imagine all of Patrick's Wink

Me? I'm gonna have to wait. I have too many mod add-ons (links, library, blogs, wiki...well, check my sig to see them all!) that I won't be able to transfer over until those are updated.

I found the permissions confusing but I've finally gotten the hang of it.

When that day comes Patrick, I'll be praying for you. Laughing

Yeah, anyone with vB or CH permissions experience should find it familiar, but it's definitely different than good old 2.0.x.

It's a lot more complex, that's for sure. I'm still learning all the ins and outs of it myself. I'm not sure if I like the new admin panel system.

I for one dont like the new ACP as I think yhey have gone backwards in development by making everything complicated rather than keeping it simple.

This will be great for site hits and posts on sites such as phpbb.com and phpbbhacks.com but will be a night mare for admin teams answering the same questions over and over again and that will run into hundreds of thousand of them.

The beta version has already shown that it is full of "how to" questions and even has links to many pages of help files (some not even completed yet) and that in itself is an indication they have got it wrong.

For administrators of phpbb3, their time will be taken up by users asking the same questions about the user control panel with "how to's"

Just those 2 features alone are enough to tell me that phpbb3 will be a dismal failure for the development team and it will be full of updates along the way which will take it well past the .21 version of phpbb2 to date.

It would be wise for someone to create a User FAQ regarding posting, attachments, UCP and all of that. The current FAQ doesn't go too in depth.

I'd be willing to work on one, but my skills with PHP are limited. Bawling
