Now that phpBB3 Beta 1 has been released. Do you think the phpBB Group will focus all their energy on phpBB3 or do you think they will still release updates on phpBB2?

i think that .21 will be final, and with phpbb3 having some great things integrated then i don't see a reason to go back. afcourse, you might wonder what happens with all the mods, but someone will write them that's for sure, i know i have somewhat heavy moded forum and it would be very different if i didn't have some of those mods

The phpBB group said they will continue to support 2.0.x for quite some time after the Gold release of Olympus. So .21 may not be the last upgrade.

phpbb 2.0.x is so widely popular that it would be a mistake for phpbb to not support it. They have stated repeatedly that they will continue to support it. Even if they didnt though, someone would take it over, there is too much of a fan base not to.

Realistically, everyone will have to move on at some point, but i dont see that coming for at least the next 2 years (how long i think itll take for olympus to catch up to 2.0.x)

just my theory though.

I think what Ex0dus is trying to say is that so many people have heavily modded version 2 bb's that once they switch to 3 all that hard work is gone. Many administrators may wait until a bunch of MODs come out for 3.0 first so a majority of there hard work doesn't go to waste. Smile

afcourse, that is my problem as well, but i am sure people will come up with updated mods in couple of months tops

for example, points mod available for .phpbb2 is also already available on phpbb3 beta, this guy is pretty quick to update i am sure others will as well

But SHS' at phpbb.com already pointed out something wrong, 3.0 isn't gold. The code although unlikely could still be altered making that already made MOD incompatible. That's why they are recommending MOD authors not start now and wait. Unless they have said something different from when I last saw. Smile

You are probably right though, a lot of major MODs will probably be available within a few months of Olympus' final release. Smile
