Pity - it wouldn't install on my site. It instructed me to change permissions to 777 for several folders and files, but never recognized that they had been changed. I couldn't go any further.
phpBB still has an edge in the "ease of installation" category |
In this instance, the underlying problem lay between the keyboard and the chair I gave it the wrong FTP password _________________ The Conversation Pit

| I go with phpBB because it has so many MODs. I can find a mod to do virtually anything I need with phpBB, but most other forums I've personally tinkered with seem very limited in that respect. |

I thought I posted in this topic. Oh well.
I would naturally pick phpBB. I've already gotten used to it's many features, and ability to bend in terms of templates and whatnot. I'm also getting ready to take my abilities with phpbb, and MySQL, one step further.
SMF is nice, but I haven't explored it's administrative capibilites. I'm just waiting for phpBB 3.0 to show up. _________________ Truestar

SMF are faster and more secure then phpbb, i used to use phpbb but the patching & upgragding got kinda too much for me. _________________ -KroS

| I like phpbb becuase there are more mods to install and stuff. I don't mind smf though. I know the person that made SMF Shop so i use it sometimes. I like it but like phpbb more. It is simpler. But there are things i do like about smf. |

phpBB, because I don't like some of the things about SMF, such as how modifications and distrubtion works. I also don't like how it wire taps everything, meaning that it logs so much data that I'd rather it wouldn't. _________________ Dog Cow, administrator of Mac GUI City |

I think most people prefer the forums software they started out with. If you started with phpBB, you'll stick with it.
However, there are many people who switched from phpBB to SMF and now hate phpBB and I think this is because at some point their phpBB board was hacked. _________________ Dog Cow, administrator of Mac GUI City |
