I have a site that has had a problem as of late with bots from poker sites registering accounts. I have the site set so the accounts have to be activated by an admin and so far we've managed to delete and ban these false accounts. I've also activated the random image/number/letter verification option and I installed the prevent bad bots hack/addon.

Is there anything else I can or should do to prevent bots from being able to register an account?

The visual confirmation should put a stop to it. If you want, you could also enable e-mail confirmation (if you haven't already), install Inactive Users (hack) and that's really all you need. Bots don't confirm via e-mail. Inactive users lets you delete them all easily.

Ok great, thanks. I have the inactive users installed, too. Good to know that what I've done should hopefully put a stop to it.

ive had the same problem with a lot of spamming account, (majority poker). But for a change up, they have made a couple of posts aswell. Can a bot post in the forum?

Its a real fine line between holding up security to keep out spammers but not being too "strong" for the real members?

bots can post, but it doesnt occur very often at my site. Usually when they do its just jibberish and we delete the post. In the case of a bot registering and putting improper content in their profile (something they do very often) I edit it out and put other information in. Sometimes its funny, sometimes its mean, but at least it isnt improper ^_>
