|

When you start a new community one of the top things on your priority list should be setting up community guidelines, or informally: rules.
When you start designing this website what do you think of when constructing your guidelines?
I think of my audience. My community is aimed at gamers, and a teenage (13+) audience who play a military shooter game. So my guidelines a little different than a professional community.
For instance, on a professional website, any form or swearing could be removed, however I like my members to know they don't have to take 30 minutes to construct a post making sure they didn't swear. Minor vulgarities are likely to be let through than a potty mouth. So you had a bad day? This doesn't mean go crazy with vulgar language, but you don't have to worry about it being removed if it's some of those littler words.
So how about everyone else here? _________________ Truestar

well for underaged people CLEAN language is a must. You don't want an angry parent to explain to you how he/she is struggling to make Little Johnny stop swearing after seeing foul language on your boards.
Take my advice for this: almost NO community needs this. Establish yourself as a clean, family-friendly place and you'll have only good things from this _________________ Webmaster articles, tutorials and topics |

Right, I should have explained more so I don't look like a potty mouth.
"Swearing Unchecked" is a violation, however if users slip up on a very rare occassion they aren't banned or anything. It's not directly stated in my guidelines that any form of swearing is allowed, but it's one of those unwritten things the staff knows about. _________________ Truestar

This is how I put it:
everyone slips up
like: damn, some people consider that bad, I honestly don't see it...
oh my god did you see that car? <---- the oh my god, thing some people find it offensive, I don't
shoot - that I don't care, but change the two oo for an i and once or twice I don't care...but if EVERY post it has shoot (change two oo for i) then I will warn the user via PM, to calm down, and if it nsists, I ban temporary.
the more severe the words are, the more I will do. |
