Have you ever given special treatment to a member? Maybe they have been a long time member since the board started so you didn't treat the violation as hard as others? Or have you even gone harder on a veteran member of your community for a violation?

I personally haven't as of yet. Then again I have to get a thriving community first. Very Happy

Nothing I would call special treatment. But, one thing I do is treat people based upon how established they are in the community. For example, someone who joins and posts an ad with their first post is going to be treated differently from someone who has 1,000 posts and then posts an ad. That sort of thing.

Thanks for starting this topic. Smile

I haven't gone harder on a veteran when they did something, but it does bother me more because I feel like they should know better.

I had to eventually ban one of my original founding members who was also an Administrator and I had no hesitation in doing so as he breached the Privacy laws in his role as an Administrator.

My first course of action was to remove him as an Administrator and he then took to abusing me in the forum so a permanent ban followed after he was warned.

I don't think this can really be generalized, it is completely based upon the situation and the user.

There are times when a senior member will advertise a website of theirs they have just made and I am fine with that - but when someone's first post is advertising their website, I get a little upset.

I am also a bit more relaxed when a long time member does a bad thing. Not very bad, but somethign like a small mistake.

Depends on the violation itself...but i personally won't be as strict on the contributing members as the non-contributing ones or the new ones. Not saying here that they will be allowed to break the rules, but like patrick said above, you could let certain things pass without bothering them about it.
