im thinking of designing a site that will have resourses for the whole country (australia) we have 7 states and various areas within the states.

then i want to put different information areas within each area.

is it possible with phpbb to have sub forums within the forum so i dont have 60 rooms on the front page.

So members can choose their state, choose their area within the state. And then choose the information from the rooms within their area.

Is this possibe?

sorry if this is confusing.

Yes, but there's only one sublevel with the easiest method I know of. For a little more depth, you'll need to use the Categories Hierarchy hack or something of a similar nature. Mods/hacks for this hack can be found at the home site. It basically replaces your phpbb as it's own software, so many (if not most) hacks for regular phpbb won't work with it.

That is not an easy hack to implement. I tried it and it crashed the phpBB board that I was building. Worst of all, it took 4 days to go over everything again and again before pressing the 'Start Button'! Lets just say, Trinity was just a slightly bigger fireball that this was.

It needs phpBB 2.016, and the current is 2.022x(?). They dont say that, and that is where I failed in a Glorious Fireball!

But I do have a YaBB forum running multiforums, it runs great and easy to install!

It should not be hard to do this from any software that supports multi-forums; straight out the box or hacked & modded. It just needs a bit more administering than normal.

Just tried Multi-Forums Lite for phpBB. It bombed but not has badly as CH did. It was recoverable, and I brought back the site I was working on

Multi-Forums Lite wants phpBB 2.019. I have 2.026(?), it went in flawlessly. It died on the database creation, and building the subforums did not work at all. Cant say if it does work for phpBB 2.019 because I dont have it.

I'll keep looking. [rant]Some of the mod writers should update their code of their hacks & mods to make sure it works with the software updates...[/rant]

Good news: Got Multiple Forums/Multiple Boards to work on phpBB 2.0

To get it done, this was the wrong hack:
Categories Hierarchy (Sub Forums)
http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/978
-For it requires the older version of phpBB 2.019 for it to work.

This is the right hack/mod:
Categories Hierarchy (Sub Forums-Pre Hacked Files)
http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/5654
-But it requires a fresh & clean install of phpBB! To my demise, I already installed 2 minor hacks and a few themes, only to have them erased, and am in the middle of reinstalling them again. But it works for the present version of phpBB 2.02x

Yeah, I know phpBB 3.0 has multi-forums built in, but there are a couple of mod/hacks that will not work on 3.0 that does work on 2.0. So I wait until everything evens out so I can finally switch to 3.0

The simillar hack on YaBB is so much easier to do.

Question: Are there other BB Software out there that has mulitple forums built in or as a hack/mod? I'm still playing around with the other programs out there and learning what they can do.
