Hello All!
I'd like to put this website before you (like a sacred relic) and ask for your views and opinions.
www.talkstudent.tk
A little info wouldn't go a miss mind!
Right, The site (and it's owner) are very new to the world of foruming, hence me placing it with Forumer.com, which has proved to be very good in terms of service, however we do hope to move it off soon (if possible)
In terms of design, we are still working upon how to find a *unique* point to the site, and any suggestions would be welcomed with open arms.
I'd also like to know your thought's on the idea of a Student Forum, is it worth developing upon and such.
Many thanks in advance.

Well, I have a couple of questions before I offer any possible suggestions.
The title says Talk Student, but I don't see anything related to school.
1. What is Talk Student about?
2. What audience are you targeting and what age group?
3. Is it school related? _________________ [ Sharnyl ][ New Houston ] |

Thanks both and my apologises for not replying sooner, minor problems.
Anyhoo, Talk Student is designed to be a forum for Student and their lives and admittadly we are very narrow in our approach (completely missing any idea of "school" or "Classwork" and focusing, to begin with, on students' lives and their take on things) I've done this as I didn't want to start out to big, I effectively want to "grow", if thats the right word, the community first and then take ideas and suggestions.
Talk Student is primarly quite "adult" in the terms of us targeting College/Uni (where I am) audiences, although I'd love to extend to the "School" market, given time.
As for the Technical Zone, my deputy Administartor runs that section, although I shall be playing about with it and possible making it a "Registered" zone, or something like that.
Once again thanks to both of you it's good to know where we could improve and any further suggestion would be great valued.

Just looked at your forum again. The snowflakes, though cool, really slows down the site for those on dial-up. Might want to take that into consideration as I don't know how many students/schools have DSL.
A few suggestions if that's ok. I see in your post that you wish to target students and that you plan to include actual school-related forums as the site grows. Not sure what sense there is in that since you're trying to target students and it's school related.
With the way it is now, upon first viewing, I'd never know it was a student/school related forum that focuses on a student's life/lifestyle. First impression is that its just another chat board.
If you're trying to focus on the lives/lifestyles of students, then you might want to consider having forums that reflect that. I can chat about music and television, films, and parties at just about any forum. Why would I want to join yours and why would I want to stay at yours?
Do you see what I'm getting at?
I'm going to be a student by spring '06 and what's my lifestyle like? Well, I'm assuming you're trying to target the 18 - 22 age group. I'm a little older than that. But, to give you an idea that might help ...
I'm divorced and a parent to 4 children. I work full-time, will be attending school full-time. I'm stressed to the max (but I think I thrive off of that ), I'm worried about funding my education, paying my bills, etc.
You might want to have some forums where the students can release their frustrations. Like an open counseling kind of forum or something. Maybe a forum that includes information on scholarships, grants, loans, work-study, etc. Maybe an employment forum. Talk about work, post rants about work, maybe a "help wanted" section where students can post what kind of job they're looking for, get help with writing a resume or establishing a portfolio.
What about advice? Students are more apt to confide in each other and ask their peers for advice in personal matters than they are in confiding in a school councillor.
Hope this helps you out a little more
Good luck with your community! _________________ [ Sharnyl ][ New Houston ] |
