[ The Infinity Program Forum ]
Being the lazy fellow that I am, I'll provide a post regarding my forum that I had typed up previously and submitted to another forum:
| Quote: |
[...]
But, anyways, some details about my forum, if you're interested in knowing this before or after checking it out, include... there being three templates available (subSilver, subBleak, and Boyz), all of which have their own custom banner and the same features implemented, there being several nifty features such as a random quotes feature below "Forum Statistics", which contains hundreds of quotes checked for accuracy, and many of which are sourced, ability to change posts per page and topics per page from within one's profile, and topic searching, and there being several interesting members and posts.
The forum being promoted has been in existence for less than two years and has been run by the same people up to now. Also up to now, the forum has been continually tidied up as to make it better organized and more in the way of cleanliness. The forum being promoted has no focused direction and is much more a secular forum than a specialized forum. The reason why I say more so rather than entirely is due to the fact that there is warrant to not totally expelling the label... and that is because of the RPG set up by Saint and run by him and some of his peers, which focuses on writing and the improvement of it, rather than the video gaming that many envision RPG as being. In short, RPG is seen as a literary practice. There is also a free-style RPG forum, if you're not into the more demanding RPG, which has numerous forums dedicated to it.
My forum is hosted by Exocrew, a site and forum host that is quite reliable and generous. Said host has given me free FTP access, which has allowed the implementation of the several features available and a unique banner for each template.
Final details are... that I back up my forum on a daily basis and I'm consistently looking over my forum, and my fellow staff members are hard working and good at what they do. My fellow staff members volunteered to help immediately after they knew that I started the forum I'm promoting here, even though I had not tried to convince them... so I am greatful for that.

I've spent so much time on this forum... and yet I'm not nearly completely satisfied. But then again, how many people ever are? Probably not many.
Even though I spend so much on the forum's appearance, my main focus has always been and continues to be the quality of its member and the quality of its posts.
I don't care how rough the criticism is. I love to get feedback.
By the way...
Here's a look at subSilver (logged in): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/Haruko12/untitled22.jpg

I like that random quote thing. I imagine that's a MOD, where did you get it?
It's nice, very nice. Boyz is a good theme, I had it for two years though and it got annoying. But still, your custom banner is pretty cool.
Nice job.  _________________ Truestar

Nice forum. One suggestion though - the google ads stick out too much (maybe you intended it?) and it somewhat spoils the aesthetic effect of your dark theme.
The logo is very cool and professionally done - good work. _________________ Literary Forums

It certainly is, and I list every MOD I install in a topic titled Implemented MODs.
But I'll direct link you to it: Random Quotes.
There's a few suggestions I'd like to present to the author about the MOD, but he isn't exactly active nor enthusiastic about continuing work on it. For one, I wish that I could control the order that the quotes appear.
By the way, the way the random quotes list appears on my forum is not in the instructions. Much of the following is all of the relevant code [taken from subSilver], including the actual code from the MOD and the code affected by my customization:
| Code: |
<table width="100%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" border="0" class="forumline">
<tr>
<td class="catHead" colspan="2" height="28"><span class="cattitle"><a href="{U_VIEWONLINE}" class="cattitle">Forum Statistics</a></span></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="row1" align="center" valign="middle" rowspan="2"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/whosonline.gif" alt="{L_WHO_IS_ONLINE}" /></td>
<td class="row1" align="left" width="100%"><span class="gensmall">{TOTAL_POSTS}<br />{TOTAL_USERS}<br />{NEWEST_USER}</span>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="row1" align="left"><span class="gensmall">{TOTAL_USERS_ONLINE} [ {L_WHOSONLINE_ADMIN} ] [ {L_WHOSONLINE_MOD} ]<br />{RECORD_USERS}<br />{LOGGED_IN_USER_LIST}</span></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="catHead" colspan="2" height="28"><span class="cattitle">Random Quotation</span></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="row1" align="center" colspan="2"><span class="gensmall">{QUOTE}</span></td>
</tr>
</table> |
I've collected a lot of quotes, so if you use this MOD, I can give you a copy of the text file containing them, if you desire that.

Yeah. I love that theme; it has sort of a calm, night alone sipping coffee and relaxing kind of feel. But I've been using subSilver for quite a while now. There's no other theme that I feel as comfortable using.

Thanks. Credit for it goes to Saint, one of the administrators at my forum.

I agree wholeheartedly... though I don't have to ever stare at it because my firewall blocks it (and even if it didn't, I can use Firefox's Adblock ). But that banner is the one obvious setback I have for having free hosting. I'm just glad they didn't make it Shrek size (unless they've recently changed it). _________________ [ The Infinity Program Forum ]

I like the feel, but agree with harishankar - the ads stick out quite a bit. Nothing you can do about it I guess. Well, short of going the paid hosting route, that is.
I know what you mean about subSilver - I use a modified version of subBlack on my forums as the default, but about a third of my members use subSilver. It seems like if people have to choose loyalty to one style - they always go with subSilver. It was requested that I not delete it back when I was of the opinion that we only needed subBlack. _________________ [The Smash Syndicate] Ek Pyros - Out of Fire |

I've since moved my forum to a new server; a friend, Brad Johnson, has offered to host the forum on his paid space, and I accepted. One of the things you'd notice, if you visit the new location, is that the banner is no longer there.
Many people like subSilver, but many have also grown weary of it, in that it's one of the most used templates, and the likelihood of you coming across a forum with subSilver as its default is great. So I suppose that explains why a majority of the registered users on my forum have stuck with Boyz, my default template; or that, and Boyz being a unique yet not-too-flashy template that's easy to get used to.
Besides the move, no notable changes have taken place. I have done some less noticable things, such as adding several more quotes to the random quotes list, and adding some MODs that help keep the database clean, along with updating some of the existing MODs, such as Deter Comment Spam and eXtreme Styles.
I'm working on new banners, and I may add a fourth template in the future; if I do, it will be bright, like subSilver, but darker. _________________ [ The Infinity Program Forum ]

Can I get the link for subBleak? I've never run across it before.
This is off-topic, but I love your usernames - Hyperion, Jupiter, Mercury, etc. Great stuff. _________________ [The Smash Syndicate] Ek Pyros - Out of Fire |

No place of public download anymore. I can email it to you, or something like that.
Anyways, the primary purpose of this response is announce notable changes:
- Monkidream is now the default template, and it has its own custom banner as well as the same forum features and customizations implemented.
- We added some MODs (like the shoutbox) and rid of some.
- Added tons of emoticons.
- Added a Contact form, Privacy Policy, and changed Usergroups to Staff List with a message on top of that page with a link to a corresponding list with more details on each staff member.
There are more changes as well, some of them much more subtle, and I'm too lazy to recall.
One thing I'm glad hasn't changed is that activity remains. _________________ [ The Infinity Program Forum ]
