| I believe that Mods and Admins must be active in their communities in order to promote the law and orderof their sites. In doing so, one can be either friendly about it or be a total dictator about things. I prefer to be friendly about it. |

| I can talk from experience how true this is. There was an instance that spiraled into the driving factor for a large defection of membership from a site I was on. The admin and a particular member had different views on a topic and it evolved into a mud slinging event for the entire community to see. The actions of the admins and mods certainly dictate the mood of the rest of the forum and it's community base. Treat members with respect (even the ones you disagree with) and, generally, you will receive that back in return. Treat them with disdain and you will sew the seeds for inevitable conflict and potential failure of the community as a whole. |

I totally agree. Being a model admin or mod helps not only the other staff members, but the rest of the community on how to handle with situations where they are annoyed. By displaying how you should respond to someone who is an annoyance, it may affect the overall tolerance of your members. Your communities 'fuse' can get longer and longer as months pass with these people like BeeBooBop23 posting.
However, by responding in a negative way, its a way of saying 'go ahead and flame this guy, he's a total idiot and should know'. _________________ Truestar

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I was a moderator of a very large and busy forum/site with thousands of members. As a member of the moderation team I tried to act and post in a way that was within the guidelines and rules set for all members. Some moderators however thought they were above it all and got away with much more than an ordinary member would.
I believe that being an admin or moderator we have to strive to be exemplary in our actions and behaviour and not let 'idiot numerouno' get the best of us. We are the role models set for our members. If we can not set a good example why should they? _________________ www.teachingsupport.org.uk/forum
