When will you upgrade to phpBB 3? Also, are you using phpBB 2 right now, or will you convert to it.
Lastly, this poll is assuming that you'll upgrade when phpBB goes Gold, not before.
For me, I'm going to implement code changes of phpBB 3 incrementally. That is, build Mac GUI to phpBB3, but it won't be a "true" phpBB 3. It will be a hybrid. Part v2, part v3. This will be due to the complexity of Mac GUI, and the number of extensive program modifications I've done.
Already, I'm using code borrowed from phpBB3. The pagination, cron system, view topic, and viewforum pages all have code from phpBB 3 in them. _________________ Dog Cow, administrator of Mac GUI City |

Probably never. If I start a new community after Gold, then I might use phpBB 3 on that. But, I won't convert any of my existing communities. They all have custom themes that I designed for them and would have to convert, plus tons of modifications I don't want to drop. I also use a lot of the phpBB code outside of the forum, in the rest of the site. I'd have to rewrite or upgrade all of that, too... ugh. _________________ Phantasy Star: The Fringes of Algo | phpBB Smith |

Conservatively, I am going to go with more than 3 months. I will be upgrading all of my communities, but I manage 7 and it is going to take some time. I am going to have to make sure that certain hacks are written for phpBB 3 and even that those hacks sometimes take into account data from hacks added to phpBB 2 (like a photo gallery... the photos from the phpBB 2 gallery must now be in the phpBB 3 gallery).
And, of course, I'll need to write up documentation and guidelines for all new features and come up with a default configuration of sorts by playing around with it. And design each one... heh. And I'm probably not including a number of other things. I'm not really looking forward to it. I am going to go one by one and it is gonna take a lot of time. _________________ Patrick O'Keefe - CommunityAdmins.com Administrator

After it goes Gold I'll be upgrading. Unless I graduate before then as seeing as I don't have a job I have no life.
I'm not finding the conversion scary yet, of course I don't have a large heavily modded community either. However seeing it from Thoul's or Patrick's view, with communities with thousands of users and several thousand posts, I can see why it can appear to be a daunting task.
For me, Gold. _________________ Truestar

When it goes gold. I would like to keep the records for the Gender MOD, and be able to use the Random Quotations and vbulletin style agreement page MODs again, but the likelihood seems slim. What I care about most is that all the content is preserved. _________________ [ The Infinity Program Forum ]

I'm going to be using it on a new community when it hits RC1. For a few others, I may convert the forum to phpBB3 when the time comes, I haven't decided yet. _________________ MMO Gaming |

its going to take me some time too. I do have a forum set up with phpbb3 but i'm not going to move one that i actually have users on. I don't quite trust it. I actually like phpbb2 right now. I will upgrade to phpbb3 when there is a lot of mods and all out for it. Its going to take me some time. _________________ www.core-fusion.net

For me, I want some of the features and upgrade of 3, but I don't want the whole package. Fortunately, I'm experienced with PHP and have been steadily porting some of the tastier enhancements to my site which is based on 2.
OTOH, if I were to start a completely new site, I would use 3 and build around it. _________________ Dog Cow, administrator of Mac GUI City |

I am now using Ptirhiik's CH full package mod on 3 forums and that is basically the phpBB2 version of what phpBB3 is.
To my knowledge he already has a database converter ready to go but it will not be released until phpBB3 goes gold.
The only major differnece I can see between the two is that Ptirhiik still uses .tpl files whereas phpBB3 uses HTML files _________________ ~HG~
