IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE RULES OF OUR COMMUNITY:

*Username - short and easy to remember. Do not use your site title since it will be considered advertising and the account will be deleted with no warning. Ex: NOT "webmastertipsandtricks" but perhaps john67 or dark_shadow ... whatever you like.

*Signature guidelines - NO images, NO animations, NO refferal/affiliate links. Smilies are considered graphics too, so please do not add them.

Do not place duplicate refference to a site (the main domain and afterwards in the other link a subdirectory of it). Each link must be a completelly different site.

Your links can be named with the site title: Dojo Design for instance, but not advertising slogans like: "best free script" or similar. Do not post slogans like: "join now", "visit now" and similar. They will be considered ads and the signature removed.

Do not place affiliate and refferal links in the signatures.

Please make sure you follow the rules above. We would also like to ask you to have a maximum of 2 lines and 3 hyperlinks in the signatures. You are allowed to link to your site, if it's not a SIMILAR FORUM. If so, your signature will be deleted. Do not post PRICES and ADS in the sig. A simple discreet link will do it.

If you failed to comply with the rule so far, please update your signatures. We'll delete all offending ones and warn the members.

* Your posts should be replies or new topics with relevance for the subjects discussed at Webmaster Tips & Tricks. If you don't have too much to add to a post, please don't post. Our moderators will delete any unnecessary posts so your post count won't increase.

* Do not post one liners. We try to offer a lot of useful information and keep the chat to a minimum level. The one line posts don't count and will be removed. Please post at least a 2-3 sentence message and with relevance to the subject.

* No refferal links. We consider it unfair for other members here and you'll suffer the conseqeunces for your deeds. You are not allowed to offer affiliate and refferal links. We don't accept this in the forums and the offending posts will get deleted. You can lose your membership here, the post count and the right to see the community after this. It's not worth it.

* Do not advertise other forums. This is forbidden and you could lose your rights in the Webmaster Tips and Tricks. We don't accept forum reviews, so please do not ask for them, as they will be deleted and account suspended.

*** NOTE: The only place you are allowed to post your forums for reviews and seeding is the Forums development team hidden area. We are willing to help you get your forums off ground, we'll review the design and content in the category mentioned above. You can access that place only after having posted 20 messages in the forums and after asking to be allowed to join by sending a PM to the Administrator

* Do not spam the threads. No post bumping is permitted either. Please keep discussion to a civilised level and do not engage in personal wars. Should you have problems, please contact the Administrator or the Moderators.

* Do not send Private Messages in which to advertise other forums. Should you receive such a spam message, please contact the Administrator and the offender will lose account and all rights here.

* Don't abuse the forums and please report abuse.

+++++++++++++

I know I need structuring Smile

I dont have any. To a large extent, I promote free speech. It has its drawbacks, but it also has it good side.

I basically took Patrick's guidelines for my own communities (with permission for what it's worth) and added/removed/edited things to fit with how I wanted them to look.

That said I guess I am largely different from Scott in my view of guidelines. Not to say I don't think free speech is important but I view membership at one of my communities as a privilege and to keep that privilege members are expected to uphold the guidelines I set forth. Of course, in my opinions all (or most) guidelines that I have could be summed up with the simple term "Be respectful of other members" but a lot of people don't seem to understand what respect of other people really is.

I'm the same as Scott, common sense is all that's needed on eryc. If you spam or be an idiot, the posts get deleted, otherwise feel free to do what you want.

Those stances are both User Guidelines (unwritten, even) in and of themselves.

Here are my rules and regulations at my forum.

We are a very friendly, easy-going community and our members are mature enough to post in accordance with the rules. However, the reason for the existence of the guidelines is solely to help guide the moderators and also help users understand the spirit and the nature of our community.

I have allowed my moderators a great deal of freedom to interpret the rules as they see fit in every situation.

Quote:

General Rules and Guidelines

Welcome to LiteraryForums.org. This is a literary community with a laidback, friendly, amiable atmosphere and we would like to keep it that way. So all we ask you to do is to follow a few simple rules and help us in maintaining LiteraryForums.org.

If you are a new member here, please do read on.

1. Adult themes/content prohibited
We believe in keeping this site 100% free of adult content either in theme or language, implied or explicit. This includes any disturbing or graphic portrayal of violence. Please do keep this in mind. Anything inappropriate will be deleted or edited out. Please help us in our forums clean.
2. No spam policy
While we do allow you to link to your personal site in your signature and user profile, please do not create topics just to post a link to your site. No matter what your intentions may be, this is considered spam. Any kind of unwanted evangelism is also considered spam. Irrelevant links to commercial websites or inappropriate sites will be deleted. The latter kind of spamming will result in an automatic last and final warning. Users who post inappropriate links a second time will be banned without notice.
3. Personal attacks and flame wars
We all understand that online forums can sometimes be extremely stressful and frustrating. While differing opinions are common in online debates please do so in a respectful, impersonal manner. Indulging in personal attacks against any other member of the site will not be tolerated here. Persistent attacks will result in a warning. If you find anybody attacking you personally, please try not to respond. This will only make matters worse. Instead, report the post and move on. It will be taken care of by a moderator as soon as possible. Anybody found deliberately indulging in provocatively baiting other members just to get a response will receive an official warning.
4. Cross posting/double posting/posting in the wrong forum
While the moderators will take care of any posts made in the wrong forum, please try and pick the appropriate forum to post your book reviews. If you are reviewing a book and you are in doubt about its genre, please post in Fiction - General or Non Fiction as appropriate. Cross posting (posting the same topic in more than one forum) is not allowed and double posts will be deleted. If your topic doesn't seem to fit into any other category, please post in the General Discussion forum.
5. Taboo topics
While we try to include all kinds of discussions here, please understand that as a literary community, there are certain topics that we prefer not to bring up here. Religion/politics may be discussed, provided there is no evangelising or deliberate intent to malign other religions. Discussing your own personal, private issues are also taboo here. While we try to be as lenient as possible with regard to controversial subjects, we have to draw a line somewhere as to which kind topics can be discussed in a rational, peaceful manner. Moderators will judge on a case-by-case basis in such a situation.
6. Private Messaging
The private messaging system should be used sparingly and only when necessary. Please do not use the PM system to spam, advertise or otherwise harass any member. Note that any reported abuse of the PM system will result in loss of PM privileges for that particular member.

Moderation Policy

In line with the spirit of the community, we prefer to be easy-going and friendly most of the time. Moderators have a fair degree of freedom to interpret the rules according to the dynamics of each situation. While we hope that there would be no cause for implementing the rules very strictly please do not take this to be weakness and take us for granted. It would be unfortunate if we were stretched to the limit of tolerance.

Having said that, please feel free to report any topics or posts that are not in compliance with our policy. A moderator will attend to it as soon as possible.

Note that all decisions taken by the moderators are final and binding on any issue. However, all of us make mistakes on occasions and in case you do have any problems with a moderation action or feel that you have been treated unfairly, please contact the administrator or the moderator in question by e-mail or PM and the issue will be taken up. Please do not bring up the issue, challenge or mock at moderators in public. Creating topics in the forum expressly to disagree with moderation actions will be severely frowned upon and may result in a warning.

Warning and Ban System

Depending on the severity of the offence or rule-breaking, offending members may be warned by PM or in public. All moderators are authorized to issue official warnings. We try our best to keep warnings friendly and explanatory in nature the first time. However repeat offences of the same nature will be frowned upon severely. A second official warning is dead serious. Any further offences of a serious nature will result in a ban. We try to keep this down to a minimum, so please don't give us any reason to warn you. We would prefer to apply bans only in the rarest of rare cases, so please do not stretch us to that limit.

The exception to the warning system is the no spam rule. As explained earlier, linking to inappropriate sites will result in an automatic, last and final warning. No notification will be given and a second offence will result in a ban without notice.

User Profile and Posting Guidelines

We request your co-operation in following these points with regard to your profile, signature and posts.

1. For the purposes of keeping the forums clean and neat, images ([IMG] tags) are not allowed either in the signature or the main body of posts. For the same reasons avatars have been disabled. If you wish to display an image, then please link it with a text URL.
2. We request you to use spoiler warnings when appropriate.
3. Please use descriptive topic titles as much as possible.
4. Keep the text colours and font size changes to a minimum within the post.
5. Large sized and multicoloured text within signatures are also discouraged.

Articles Submission Guidelines

We encourage you to share your original essays, stories and other creative writing with us. However, the forum is not the place to do it. We do have an articles section to accept such submissions. Each submission needs approval before it appears for public viewing. In case you are interesting in submitting your original writings for peer review, please do check out the articles submission FAQ here.

Thank you for reading the rules.

Regards,
Hari (Forum Administrator)
